Since I had an operation on my eye in 2009 the first problem I encountered was not being able to read. Although I could see with one eye, whenever I look at a page of writing, the writing on the page get mixed up, blurry and I could swear the words were moving on the page, I had to focus very hard to be able to read one paragraph.
Reading a whole book was then out of the question. getting "large text" books was not always possible, and they really did not help that much. between headaches and impatience I hated the whole experience.
The Cornea graph was re-done 2 years later and the same process was started all over again.
When I started listening to audio books, a whole new world opened to me, I have since managed to listen to a book on average of 1 book every 3 week. As I drive to work from Essex to Kent, a journey that lasts just over 40 min on the M25, I spend every minute of it listening to a book, for the first time I did not mind the traffic jams that the QE2 bridge and tunnel are famous for. sometime I even wish to a little traffic jam so that I can finish the book by the time I get home.
I have never been left without one. many times I have one book for the car and one for home.
In a way I am addicted to books and certain types of writers. I began to appreciate various writing styles and genres. I "read" books from Crime and Philosophy to biographies and sociology.
